This morning the power was out in the house. It rained buckets all night long and apparently there were several major mud slides on the island. Our internet is down too which makes it a very wet and boring day!

I got up and did a workout at 7 am and then woke the kids up for church. They were reluctant as always, but complied and we were ready quickly. We had Spam and Eggs for breakfast. The kids ate the spam, but no more than one piece.

We loaded into our sandy and wet jeep and headed off to church. We attended the United Church of Christ, Church of the Pacific in Princeville. We got there just in time for it the meeting to start. I think we were the only younger family there except for one other. The minister was in a Hawaiian shirt and was very nice and well spoken. We sang a number of songs, and they played a few musical numbers with instruments and even had a choir perform. All this from a congregation of about 30. We recited a number of saying and sang hymns, one was in Hawaiian. After the opening, we had an visitor welcome and at least a dozen people stood and introduced themselves. They were from every state and every religion. There were Lutherans, The old brethren, Baptists, and a number I’d never heard of. All were incredibly nice and welcoming. We made a small donation when the plate came around and even took communion with sweet bread and grape juice. It was fun to see the kids actually paying attention and a little wide eyed as they enjoyed the meeting. At the finish, the entire groups formed a big circles, all grabbed hands, and we said a prayer together. The preacher held Lijah’s hand and gave him and the kids each a hug after it was over. A gentleman with a full beard, no mustache and member of the Old Brethren pulled me aside to introduce himself and congratulate me on being such a good Christian father to my well behaved children. He was very kind and talkative and reminded me of an Amish Brother but in a Hawaiian shirt. The kids favorite part was the food bar after the meeting. We socialized with a few people, ate some food and headed for home. It’s still raining.

I did another workout video and then made grilled ham and cheese sandwiches for the kids. I freshened up Dresden’s permanent marker tattoo and then went to watching TV and hoping the rain will let up so we can go to the beach again!
